When Should I Give My Child a Cell Phone?

We're often asked "is my child too young for a cell phone?" We believe the simple answer isn't based on age at all, but responsibility and need.

To help you determine if your child is ready and responsible enough for a wireless phone, we encourage you to ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Is my child involved in extracurricular activities ?

  2. Could the activities get canceled or finish early?

  3. Is it difficult to find a public phone where my child attend those activities?

  4. Am I ever the last parent to pick up my child from activities?

  5. Are there time when I wish I had the ability to leave my child a message regarding a change of plans?

  6. Is my child ready for added responsibility?

  7. Do I want the security of knowing the whereabouts of my child at any given time?

  8. Have I thought about purchasing a wireless phone for my child but I'm concerned about controlling the associated costs?

Did you answer yes to the majority of questions above? Chances are your child may be ready to enter the wireless world!

To avoid monthly bill surprises and control costs, you have a couple of options, but we suggest prepaid wireless plans to begin. With Prepaid Wireless, you can control the costs and well and get several quality providers including Opex Wireless who sells Firefly Cellular for Kids, a special phone made just for small hands. AT&T Also has the Firefly phone.
